An Interview with Daniel McElroy, Owner

Owner Daniel McElroy with daughter

Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family.

I was born in Seattle, Washington, but raised in Columbus, Indiana. I have been in Austin for the last 10 years and have been impressed by what this city has to offer. The people here are so nice and welcoming. I have a 5-year-old daughter who just lost her second tooth! Her favorite "food" is cotton candy, so for Christmas, I got her a full-size commercial cotton candy machine- LOL. We don't make it just for us though. We like to make it together and then bring it to friends' birthday parties and events as presents for others. And we intend to use it with her school for fundraisers.

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now.

I have an eclectic background. I was in the food service industry as a cater-waiter, working my way up to a line cook in a restaurant. Later I found myself learning the film industry. After a decade of being a producer, I realized it wasn't for me, so I started looking for my next opportunity. After learning about this industry, I found a new passion and bought this company and honestly, this is by far the happiest I have ever been in my life. I am surrounded by such amazing people and get excited on Sunday about going back to the office on Monday to solve interesting problems and work with customers to exceed their expectations on what we can offer them.

What is unique about your business?

We completely customise all of our window coverings. We can find solutions to any window-covering circumstance. We have done covering for windows that the other companies have told customers couldn't be done. We not only provide wonderful products, but we also provide a much-desired service, and design guidance. We also just finished covering 58 windows at Top Golf!

What is your favorite color and why?

I have always been drawn to light blue. The same color as the water in the Bahamas. I find it relaxing and peaceful.

What is your favorite kind of music?

I grew up going to car shows with my dad in his Corvette. We would listen to "oldies." The Eagles, Bob Seger, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Doobie Brothers. They would be blasting as we would drive across Indiana. It was a very memorable part of my life.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice can you offer to the residents?

The job isn't done until the customer is completely satisfied. Just because the oil has been changed, the meal has been served, or the drapes have been installed, doesn't mean that the job is over. Attention to detail and after care are essential to making customers happy.
