Alejandro Medina

Law Enforcement Deputy Finds Future in Real Estate

Born and raised in Austin, Alejandro Medina is a man of many hats. Eager to find his place in this world, he tried college but discovered it wasn’t the right fit. He comments, “I wanted to work with my hands and be around people.” The answer he desired actually came after he went on a ride along with Deputy Smucker.

“I liked what he did and the impact he had on the community,” explains Alejandro.

In 2014, he went into law enforcement with Travis County. Although he enjoyed his career, everything changed in 2020. In May 2020, his son was born during the pandemic. During parental leave for four weeks, the nation became divided after seeing the death of George Floyd.

After experiencing the negative impact of public perception on law enforcement during the George Floyd protests, including text messages on his phone, Alejandro had a change of heart. He began to question whether he could continue in the field for the next 20 years while still being there for his family.

Another factor to consider is that Alejandro knew over 10 individuals who retired from law enforcement who passed away 2-4 years after retirement after removing themselves from the stress of the job. The combination of the two factors was a low point for him. He was determined to find a better way to provide for his family.

A New Path

“I started thinking, ‘What could I do that I enjoy and make money?’” says Alejandro. During his free time, he didn’t find himself on Facebook or on Instagram, but on YouTube where he learned about investing in properties.

He decided to get his real estate license. As Alejandro says, “I love meeting people, am good at conversations, and good at solving problems.” When he went back to work, he went to Champions School of Real Estate in Austin, taking three weeks off work and got licensed. He interviewed with brokerages and discovered Keller Williams, drawn to its work-life culture and the company's nonprofit program, KW Cares. One event in particular that spoke to Alejandro's heart was when KW Cares stepped up to pay for his second cousin's funeral after he was killed in the Uvalde school shooting. KW Cares learned about it on social media.

“They wanted to pay for the entire funeral and reached out without being asked. That just spoke volumes to me,” he says.
In his first year in real estate, Alejandro had six transactions, which doubled the following year, with many more to come. He loves what he does and it shows with his passion and enthusiasm.

“If you serve your clients, the money will come,” he comments. Starting his career in May 2021, he has done exceptionally well. “It’s a passion,” he reflects. “I will talk about real estate all day.” His goal is to purchase a second home and use his first home as a rental property.

Best of Both Worlds

Currently, Alejandro is both a full-time law enforcement officer and a successful real estate agent, working tirelessly to build generational wealth for his family and help others in the community find their dream home. He specializes in helping people who don't think they can buy a house, and has even put three officers into their first homes through a program with the Texas State Affordable Housing Commission. Lenders also have options for first responders for purchasing a home.

Despite the demands of his two full-time careers, Alejandro still finds time to invest in himself. He is involved in a building wealth program at Keller Williams and watches training videos of mastermind training classes since he can’t attend in person.

Making Memories

When Alejandro isn’t working, he cherishes time with his wife Lacey and three children, Maggie (9), Katie (5), and Jameson (3). Together, they like exploring new places in Austin and making memories. You can find them at breweries that have playscapes for the kids.

“I like watching them grow,” he smiles.

Hard Work Pays Off

Alejandro's story is a testament to the power of hard work, determination, and a passion for serving others. Whether he's putting his life on the line to protect his community or helping families find the perfect home, he is always striving to make a positive impact and leave a lasting legacy.
