ROSALYNE CHATMAN
The Power of Becoming

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Just ask Rosalyne Chatman. She overcame adversity, turning obstacles into opportunities, and problems into potential.
From childhood trauma and personal loss to professional success and purpose, Rosalyne’s life is a story of grit, healing, and the unwavering optimism of a brighter tomorrow.
Today, she’s a top-producing real estate agent with Century 21 New Millennium, but the road to get here wasn’t always smooth. “My past has shaped me to fight for myself and for others,” she reflects. That fight not only defines her business, but who she is as a person.
A Foundation Built on Service
Rosalyne was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and raised in part in Detroit before relocating to Maryland at age 13. One of four siblings, her early years were shaped by family transitions and life lessons that would later fuel her empathy for others. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD, and went on to study Computer Science at Florida A&M University.
After returning home from college, Rosalyne worked at the Department of Health & Human Services—but quickly realized the role didn’t fulfill her. “Someone called me ‘bold’ for leaving my good government job,” she recalls. “I wouldn’t come to fully understand that until years later.”
Her mother was a longtime civil servant with the Department of State and former President of Local 1534. “She believed in helping and serving others,” Rosalyne shares. “Mom dedicated her life to union work, and I deeply admire her for that. She set the standard by which we are to stand up for what is right.”
Rosalyne held various roles before stepping into the real estate world as an administrative assistant. From there, her career took a turn: she became a commercial property assistant manager, then an onsite manager in Northwest D.C. But it was a layoff in 1996 that would spark her career in real estate in 1998.
“After some soul-searching, I took control of my life and followed a friend’s suggestion to become a real estate agent,” she shares. Real estate is where she would soar like never before.
A Life Transformed
While her professional life took shape, Rosalyne also committed to deep personal healing. Her past includes trauma that many would shy away from sharing—but she speaks openly, not for sympathy, but to show others that healing is possible. “In 1994, I decided enough was enough,” she says. With therapy, support groups, and hard self-work, Rosalyne confronted her childhood abuse, abandonment issues, substance use, and bipolar depression.
Her past, though painful, fuels her ability to connect with clients and approach life with compassion and honesty. “I try to lift others’ spirits,” she smiles.
Rosalyne’s approach to real estate is refreshingly real. “My personal experiences make me relatable. I’m down-to-earth, honest, and I treat everyone with respect. I’m transparent from the beginning and form genuine connections with clients,” she shares.
This Top Producer aims to make their experience positive and stress-free. “My approach is built on empathy, communication, and humility,” she points out. It’s her secret sauce.
She’s also grateful for her Transaction Coordinator, Michelle Smith, who is the backbone of her success. I often tell her, “There is no me, without you.” The truth is, “No one succeeds alone!” This includes support from friends, family and colleagues.
Fun
When she’s not working, Rosalyne loves shooting pool, old movies, board games, and racquetball. But nothing brought her more joy than her beloved Yorkie, Louie. A Mother’s Day gift in 2011, Louie was more than a pet—he was family. “He brought me so much happiness,” she shares. “He passed away July 2023, but he left his pawprints on my heart forever.”
She’s also the reigning Scrabble champion at family gatherings—a title she proudly holds (though she notes her mother skipped the last tournament). Her love of words comes from her mom, who read the dictionary while pregnant with her.
Looking Ahead
Rosalyne’s goals for 2025 are both professional and deeply personal. “I want to be the best Realtor I can be, but also the best daughter,” she says. Her mother, who recently recovered from a stroke, is turning 87 this year. “She’s now healthy and strong.
Her other goal? “To start thinking about myself. It’s time to check off my bucket list.”
Rosalyne is an inspiration. She has built a business by being herself—no airs, no shortcuts—just genuine care, unmatched professionalism, having fun and a whole lot of heart, giving thanks to God for it all.
