Brian Moon
Resilience through Tragedy

My entire youth felt like I was just trying to survive the pain of loss,” says REALTOR® Brian Moon. “It taught me that life is short, and that I should go out and follow my dreams.”
Born and raised in McHenry, Illinois, Brian’s early life was marked by tragedy and resilience. After losing his father to a brain tumor at age six, his brother in a snowmobile accident at fourteen, and his mother to lung cancer at twenty-nine, Brian found himself alone before he turned thirty. Yet from those losses, a deep sense of purpose and perseverance emerged within him.
“Those lessons have helped me work through life's hard questions,” Brian says, “and gave me the fortitude to be resourceful, gumption to fight for what I wanted, and to try and live with little regrets —I was willing to do the work to make things happen.”
After his father’s death, Brian was raised by his mother and grandmother. Their spirit of service inspired foundational values that would later define his approach to business.
“I looked up to my grandma, who was a saint,” Brian says. “She was always kind to everyone, patient, and gave all her money away to Catholic charities.”
Academics didn’t come easily to Brian. Sports became the structure that kept him on track, helping him maintain academic eligibility through high school and college, where he eventually earned a degree in marketing and communication from the University of Illinois. During those years, he also explored transformative learning through Landmark Education.
“Landmark’s program taught me the basic structures by which we know, think, and act,” he says. “From that awareness came a fundamental shift in my mindset.”
That mindset proved crucial in 2001, when his initial career as an options trader came to an abrupt end. Faced with yet another life challenge, Brian wasted no time in taking his next steps.
“I started in real estate the same day I was let go from the Chicago Board Options Exchange,” he recalls.
“Literally with my boss over my shoulder and box in hand after cleaning out my desk, I called my cousin Tom Walsh, a well-respected REALTOR® in Bucktown, and asked if he still wanted me to come work with him,” he adds.
That phone call was the start of a new career and chapter for Brian. Under Tom’s mentorship, he learned that real estate could be more than sales; it could be a calling.
“Tom’s unwavering integrity and desire to always put his clients first showed me that helping people was a unique opportunity—that you could bless others through your career,” he says.
Brian’s early days weren’t easy, but the resilience he’d developed throughout his life gave him the motivation to persevere.
“I had to work hard to open doors, and I will say I had a lot of doors closed in my face and I've made a lot of mistakes, but I never gave up,” says Brian.
His advice to new agents is crystal clear: “Find a mentor like Tom, [and one who is] running a business on models and systems.”
That focus on systems intentionality helped Brian build the Moon Group, a tight-knit team with a shared passion for service. “My clients, friends, and team are my family these days, and I try my best to treat them as such.”
“My team includes trusted my partner Dean Ramoino, a skilled professional with great analytical skills and a deep understanding of finance who always puts his clients first and will always go the extra mile to exceed their expectations. Dean has been with the team for eight years and challenges the status quo,” says Brian.
“Quinn Keller, who shot from being an executive assistant to the director of operations, is ‘the glue’ to our team,” says Brian. “She’s always thinking ahead of what needs to be done and how we can execute at a higher level. Her dedication to making us all better is unwavering, and she truly cares about the team and our amazing clients,” explains Brian.
Mitch Lay and Guy Habosha are new to real estate but are bringing fresh energy and drive into the fold.
“I’m passionate about helping younger REALTORS® find their footing,” Brian says.
“For example, my team and I meet multiple times a week to keep a high level of accountability on developing our market knowledge and skill set to achieve the results we put in our business plan.”
Brian’s dedication comes through not only in his client service and mentorship but in his deeper relationships. “My friends and many clients have become like family,” he shares.
When he’s not negotiating deals or coaching his team, Brian finds peace at home with his wife, Lindsey, and their three children: Parker, Declan, and Everly Jo. Whether they’re riding bikes, playing soccer, dancing to music in the living room, or playing board games, family life is at the center of everything.
Brian is also committed to giving back, supporting organizations like GRIP Outreach for Youth, the Polar Plunge® Chicago for Special Olympics Illinois, Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, and Shriners Children's Hospital.
“I have a fire in my belly to honor my family and my God in everything I do,” Brian adds.
Looking ahead, Brian’s vision for the next twenty years is both ambitious and heart-led.
“I hope to grow a top-quality team so I can continue to mentor and build my brokerage,” he says. He also plans to launch a development company that feeds leads back to his agents. “I want us to be known not just as a top-producing team, but also as a team that’s making a big impact on our community."
