Teaching Her Way to the Top

Michelle Leachman found real estate the same way she’s found every calling in her life—by teaching her way into it. Education isn’t just something she does. It’s who she is. And it’s the through line that carried her to becoming one of Denver’s rising top producers in just two years.

Before real estate, Michelle was juggling more careers than most people consider in a lifetime. She taught science and business leadership at MSU Denver while also serving as a group fitness instructor at Lifetime, the Director of Education for Fit Bodies Inc., and a National Master Coach for Schwinn Cycling.

“My purpose in life is to educate,” she explains. “After buying my first home, I learned that there is so much opportunity to educate homebuyers to ensure they get the best home possible and are the most educated every step of the way.”

She purchased that first home excited for a light renovation, something similar to what she watched her mom do growing up in Idaho. But the project quickly turned into a full gut. That experience didn’t just open a door. It reframed her future. If education was the impact she wanted to make, real estate was the place to do it.

“I wanted to help people,” she adds simply. “Homebuying is one of the biggest purchases someone makes in their life. My purpose is to help educate and guide them every step of the way.”

Michelle earned her license in December 2023, started working with clients a month later and went under contract for the first time that March. By the end of her first full year, she had closed 35 transactions totaling $21.5 million in sales—enough to set the DMAR Rookie of the Year record for both highest volume and most closed transactions. This year, she pushed even further, finishing with 42 closings and earning recognition as a Top Zillow Premier Agent, which has made her a presenter at national and regional conferences throughout 2025.

What made Michelle so successful is that she didn’t pivot away from her past. She built on top of it. Even working on her personal home led her to purchasing additional full-flip projects that she, her husband and her mom are renovating together down to the fine details.

The reward for Michelle isn’t measured in sales volume or awards. It’s in what happens after the closing table. “Seeing so many clients take a house and make it home—that’s the feeling that can’t be beat,” she shares. Her phone fills with photos of renovations, decorated rooms and, sometimes, newborn babies. Clients become friends. Their milestones become shared joy.
But carrying that kind of heart also means carrying the weight when challenges surface. “Not taking everything personally,” she admits, has been her hardest lesson. Empathy makes her effective. It also makes the bumps feel sharper. Still, she continues to lean into the belief that every setback is a chance to grow stronger and show up better.

The Apollo Group has played a significant role in her success. As one of its six founding members, Michelle credits her mentor, Kris Caldwell, and her team for showing her what real leadership looks like. “I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for them,” she acknowledges.

Fast forward two years, she now finds herself on the other side in a leadership role—guiding new agents, answering questions, creating clarity and lifting others the way she was lifted. It’s a path she didn’t expect but has worked so hard to get to.

Outside work, Michelle stays active. She hikes, bikes, skis, renovates homes and once competed on Tracked, New Zealand’s version of Survivor. With a heart for animals, she supports the ASPCA and Best Friends Animal Society.

At home, she shares life with her husband Dan, her mom Joy—who now lives nearly next door—and their dog, Hobbes. Their first child is due in March, a milestone reshaping her definition of success.

“Success is the harmony between becoming who you strive to be and lifting up the people who matter most along the way,” she reflects.

Her advice for those coming up behind her is hard-earned: “Find a team that both challenges you and elevates you. There will be failures, but who you have in your corner will make the world of difference. And above all, don’t let fear decide your path.”

When she thinks about what she wants to be remembered for, her answer is as steady as the rest of her story: “Making a difference in the lives of others.” It’s the teacher in her. The mentor. The mother-to-be. The REALTOR® who built a career on one belief—that education can change lives, and she can help people build a future they’re proud of.
