Adam VandeKamp

Journey Mortgage

"Fifteen years ago, my wife and I flew to Vegas and got married," says Adam VandeKamp of Journey Mortgage. They had only known each other for six months.

"Right before we left, my employer shut down.  So, I was jobless getting married —real winner to my in-laws I am sure," he laughs.

His next move was a job at Wells Fargo. "I really didn't want that job, but what else was I going to do?"

"Turns out, it was the third best thing that ever happened to me," he continues. "That's because it introduced me to the mortgage world.  The 2nd best thing that ever happened to me was leaving Wells Fargo."  He wants to make sure we know that the best thing that ever happened to him was marrying his wife, Janelle.

That trip to Vegas started something big. He and Janelle now have five kids — Leah (6), Zach (10) Jace (13), Jayda (15), and Christian (16). And a small, family-oriented mortgage company.
"We really rely 100% on referral and repeat business," notes Adam. "We strive for top-notch communication no matter what time of day or night.  We work weekends as well."

Journey Mortgage offers any product you or your client may need: Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and down payment programs.  "We waive all our lending fees for VA loans.  We also have a Heroes program for all Nurses, Firefighters, Police Officers, and Teachers that provides $1000 off closing costs." That's really at the core of their local-focused philosophy.

"Sure, we are in a tough market right now with inflation and interest rates.  Builders aren’t building much, inventory is low, rates are more than double what most people can afford, causing them not to want to 'move up' to their next home, and we are in a very crowded industry that is currently 'right-sizing'," says Adam.

But, like most things, focus and persistence is the key to weathering anything.

"At the end of the day," he says, "the satisfaction of looking at the excitement on buyers' faces at the closing table when they realized they just bought their dream home, is well worth any struggle we might have getting them there."
