Jane Horner
RE/MAX Concepts
In the fast-paced world of Lincoln real estate, some professionals bring a unique blend of experience, determination, and diversity. With RE/MAX Concepts, Jane Horner is one such individual whose life journey is as fascinating as her career! From growing up in Ashland, Nebraska, to running a successful dance studio, owning a hair salon, and managing retail stores as a single mom, Jane's route to becoming a real estate agent is filled with grit and achievement.
Jane's story begins in the nearby town of Ashland, Nebraska. From an early age, she discovered her passion for dancing, starting at the age of three. Jane’s love for the art form grew over the years, leading her to open a dance studio at the age of 17, which she ran for an impressive 14 years. “My favorite dance styles are jazz and lyrical, but I learned them all, including tap and pointe,” I asked Jane whether her feet took a beating after all the practicing and performing. I was gifted with an audible eye roll and reference to some necessary podiatric “repairs.” Remarkably, Jane chose to add to her dance studio endeavor in the same season by concurrently operating a hair salon. Her ability to juggle two businesses reveals her persistence and drive.
Life took an unexpected turn for Jane in 2000 when she decided to sell both her dance and hair studios to embark on a new adventure. She and her family moved to Alabama, where Jane embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom to her three children, Brooklyn, Luke, and Chloe. In 2003, the family returned to Waverly, Nebraska, and Jane returned to building a career outside the home in retail management. For 15 years, Jane managed three stores at the Gateway Mall in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her roles included overseeing and running Bath & Body Works, Eddie Bauer, and Helzberg Diamonds operations. “I was kind of a “Mall Rat!” I became a single mother during this time, and I was able to arrange my schedule in all the ways I needed to work full-time and still be available to my children. Many of the referrals I now enjoy as a real estate agent are relationships I built and maintained from my career in retail management.”
Throughout her career, at home, and in the marketplace, Jane faced another significant challenge related to her personal well-being. Inspired by a vision for a busy and productive future as a mom and in her career, Jane chose to prioritize her health and lose weight. This determination led her to engage with intensity and unwavering focus, where in 1998, she successfully achieved her weight loss goals and experienced a significant surge in her overall health. Jane's incredible transformation and renewed passion for wellness paved the way for an opportunity several years later to join Metabolic Research Center in 2016, where she served as a weight loss and diet consultant for five years, sharing her journey and knowledge with others. Her empathetic approach and firsthand experience made her a credible and inspiring mentor for those looking to embark on their own health journeys.
Acquiring her real estate license in 2022, Jane connected with colleagues Larry Holmes of RE/MAX Concepts and Michelle VanHorn of CMG Financial for inspiration and direction. She decided to join RE/MAX Concepts at the beginning of July 2022 through their urging and encouragement. Already named a Realtor On The Rise, the math is simple and stunning, revealing the constancy with which Jane approaches her endeavors in determination to excel and achieve exceptional growth. Her diverse life experiences, from dance to entrepreneurship, motherhood, and retail, have equipped her with a unique perspective and an empathetic understanding of her clients' needs.
One noteworthy sale has become Jane’s High /Low point so far. When a client building a custom home as a vacation and lake property suddenly aborted the project due to unforeseen circumstances, getting the house sold while mitigating potential losses was challenging. “The construction proved sub-par, so there were lawyers and processes above and beyond the norm that challenged me and delayed the house sale. As the sale stalled, some colleagues in the office suggested I have the property professionally staged to get it moving, so I did, and it sold within 48 hours. The whole deal was an uncomfortable process but with a great and memorable ending.”
A farm girl at heart, Jane loves to sell any property that has acreage. “It’s more than a house when acreage is involved; it’s a lifestyle that I love and get excited about.” Short-term and long-term goals include having an ever-increasing presence in the market and obtaining her brokerage license. “My husband Sean and I are empty nesters, so there is additional time to focus on work goals.”
Away from real estate, Jane is busy with two dogs, Rocky-Jordan and Boa-Adrian, golfing, traveling to Scottsdale, and playing in a darts league with Sean. Jane and Sean have been together since 2014 and have blended their families into an even more beautiful seven! Sean’s two boys, Evan (24) and Caleb (21), join Brooklyn (29), Luke (28), and Chloe (21). “We have become this crazy blended family whom I adore! Gathering the whole family for a tropical vacation together is on my bucket list! Additionally, I have never and would like to climb a mountain!” No doubt Jane will do both and more!
