Lacretia Mitchell

Shaped by her Past

Mother of three. Wife. Business owner. Stalwart community advocate. Lacretia Mitchell is one of those women who somehow find a way to do it all. With three active daughters, a husband who works evenings, and a thriving real estate business, Lacretia is no doubt a “boss mom.”

Hard Knocks
A native of Oklahoma City, Lacretia grew up on the south side.

“I am no stranger to hard work and overcoming challenges,” Lacretia says. “I’ve been every statistic you can possibly think of, but I was determined to not allow my circumstances to dictate my future, and others put me in a box. With my daddy’s work ethic and street smarts and my mother’s determined spirit, I made something out of nothing.”

At 19, Lacretia got pregnant with her first daughter. She remembers it being scary, but nonetheless, she was determined to build a legacy she could be proud of. For years, she worked and went to school full time while raising her girls. In 2011, she graduated with an M.Ed in Adult Education Training from the University of Central Oklahoma.

“This degree opened up many doors and allowed me to learn a lot of skills when it comes to managing different personalities, but I wasn’t content,” Lacretia reflects. “I wanted to go into full-time ministry and landed a job with a local church, where I thought I would be for a very long time.”

However, that wasn’t the case. She was unexpectedly let go and left jobless. Lacretia felt like she had hit rock bottom, but her sudden firing also represented an opportunity. She reassessed her life and her professional goals and came out with a new plan.

“Being let go from the church allowed me to realize how important it was for me to have financial control over my life, and I wanted to create that through real estate.”

Becoming a #HOMEgirl

Lacretia became a real estate agent to serve her community and live out what she believes is her purpose.

“And that is to educate, empower, and encourage those around me,” she says.

Since getting her start in November 2019, Lacretia has taken the Oklahoma City real estate market by storm. In 2020, she closed 15 homes for $2.7 million, and in 2021 she closed 38 homes for $8.28 million.

“The most fulfilling thing about being a REALTOR® is being able to see my clients go from not being sure they can even buy a home, being unfamiliar with the process, to me handing them their keys, them being able to feel educated on the process and referring to their friends and family. That’s top-tier fulfillment for me,” Lacretia says. “What makes me different is that I build and maintain a relationship with my clients and truly become their #HOMEgirl!”

Shaped by her Past

Family continues to be at the center of Lacretia’s life. Her daughters, Emani, Neamya, and Cailynn, are now 19, 16, and 10. She and her husband, Chai, have been together for 14 years.

“We have an amazing support system: our parents, siblings, aunts, and uncles. We love getting together and cooking and watching movies.”

Lacretia feels a sense of excitement about the progression of her career. She anticipates growing the business, creating generational wealth for her family, and being a cog in the wheel of the Oklahoma City community.

As she looks ahead, Lacretia holds the memory of her past as a guiding light for others.

“My past shaped me by reminding me that anything is possible and to never allow anyone to have control of your future — only you… My struggles have allowed me to be relatable and become Oklahoma’s favorite #HOMEgirl.

“Everything I do, I ensure that people are educated, empowered, and encouraged. As a professional and expert in my field, I want people to experience that anything is possible… I want to be remembered for the impact and influence I had on others' lives, for the servant heart that I exemplified when they encountered me. Every day, I strive to serve others, and as long as I do that, then my job on Earth has been done.”
