Hoop & Barrel

Elevating Tapas and Cocktails in a Vibrant Setting

In November of last year, Hoop & Barrel burst onto the scene, captivating the taste buds of locals with its innovative tapas and handcrafted cocktails. The brainchild of owner Ryan Hooper and his wife Ashton, this tapas cocktail lounge has quickly become a go-to spot for those seeking a unique and memorable dining experience.

The journey to opening Hoop & Barrel began when Ryan and Ashton operated a mobile bartending business called Hops & Bubbles, which opened in July 2021. This traveling tavern soon led to a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

“We got approached by the previous owners about taking it over,” explains Ryan.  He and Ashton couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Now they have the best of both worlds with Hoop & Barrel and Hops & Bubbles.

From Waiter to Small Business Owner
Ryan's background in the service industry spans over a decade, from waiting tables to bartending and being promoted to management at Abuelo’s. He also worked in the oil field, but his heart led him back to the service industry.

His passion for the craft, coupled with Ashton's unwavering support, propelled them forward. Ryan's experience at Blue Door, where he honed his mixology skills and delighted guests with exceptional drinks, laid the foundation for their future venture.

It was Ashton’s suggestion to start their mobile bar, which was warmly welcomed by locals. Building on this success, they needed an equally fitting name for their new tapas cocktail lounge. After brainstorming various options, their friend Nathan Reeves suggested "Hoop and Barrel," a name that seamlessly aligned with their concept. The name draws inspiration from Ryan's last name, "Hoops," and whiskey barrels.

“It fits really well,” says Ryan, who was also considering Desert Fox. Now locals can mix, mingle, and meet new folks at Hoop & Barrel and enjoy the vibrant bar scene.

Connections Over Cocktails
“We’re really known for some good quality fun cocktails,” says Ryan. Hoop & Barrel has swiftly garnered recognition for its extraordinary cocktails. Each drink is meticulously crafted with a focus on quality and creativity. But it's not just the cocktails that impress—the tapas offerings are equally exceptional with Chef Clint, who is one talented chef. Breaking away from the standard bar food fare, Hoop & Barrel delights guests with small bites that are both tasteful and inventive. Ryan and Ashton constantly push the boundaries, ensuring their menu is original and diverse, keeping patrons coming back for more.

However, what truly sets Hoop & Barrel apart is their commitment to outstanding service. From the moment guests step through the door, they are greeted by a staff that excels in creating a welcoming and memorable experience. “That’s what we want to be known for – our service,” says Ryan.

Relax and Unwind
Hoop & Barrel is an inviting space where people can come together, relax, and indulge. With seating for around 70 guests, the establishment features cozy couches and lounge areas, inviting visitors to unwind and engage in conversations. It's an ideal environment for networking, socializing, and enjoying the company of friends and acquaintances. The focus is not on formal sit-down dinners, but on fostering a sense of community and shared experiences.

Enjoy live music a couple of times a month, from solo artists with acoustic sets to full bands. They also have popular events, such as Beckie Leigh’s Hat Bar Co. Beckie custom designed hats for people on the spot. “She made them right there and people got them fitted,” says Ryan. That was paired with a photo booth from Izzy’s 360, where people could make videos and show off their new hats!

Hoop & Barrel even had High Society tattoo artist Luis Guerrero do small tattoos for patrons, which people loved. More events include virtually baking an edible purse, Louis Vuitton style. “We’re open to new ideas all the time,” says Ryan.

Parties + Private Events
Hoop & Barrel recently held a Real Producers event in June for the area’s Permian Basin Top Producers. Ryan says, “We welcome and love hosting private parties for any industry who wants to throw a party.”

For those who want a bar to be at their venue, he recommends the bars on wheels with Hops & Bubbles. This innovative option features a champagne wall and even a dresser that has been converted to a beer tap system. Or consider their bar trailer for outdoor events and gatherings.

From waiter to entrepreneur, Ryan has followed his passion for service. The opening of Hoop & Barrel was a dream come true for him and Ashton. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already!
