Jonathan Calhoun

Building a Legacy

Jonathan Calhoun is following a long family tradition of young, successful real estate professionals and quickly cementing his own legacy. Having obtained his license in 2015, at the young age of 21, Jonathan, just last year, became one out of roughly 3,500 people under the age of 30 in the entire United States to become an Associate Broker.

While Jonathan falls within just 6% of all brokers in the country, he is one out of three in his family to do the same thing. Jonathan’s path into real estate was established long ago, when his grandfather obtained his real estate license at the age of 20. His grandfather went on to become a successful developer with his uncle John, having helped build the Treesdale community, Franklin Park, Ramblewood, Tanglewood, and many others.

Further cementing Jonathan’s path, Jonathan’s other uncle, Chris Murphy, obtained his real estate license at the age of 22. He then became a broker at 27 and went on to become the Broker of Record for RE/MAX Select Realty. When Jonathan decided to get his license, he became the third generation in his family to do so, and the second generation to become a broker in his 20s.

While Jonathan grew up around real estate and was heavily influenced by his grandfather, he also looked up to his parents and really tried to go down the college path first. His father was a doctor, who owned his own practice and instilled a strong work ethic in Jonathan. Jonathan got a few years of college under his belt, playing rugby for Indiana University of Pennsylvania and studying Business Marketing before pivoting into real estate.

He had started working at Alpine Pools in high school and continued through college as a store manager and salesperson. But by the time his fall semester ended in 2014 and Jonathan went on Christmas break, he felt he needed a change – from everything. “I just was not happy with school. I felt like I was wasting my time. I just wanted to get out there and start working,” Jonathan says.

Anxious to get on with his life, Jonathan resolved to get his real estate license and do exactly what his grandfather and uncles had done before him. “I figured if they could start in their early 20s and go on to lead successful careers, then I could too. I already had five years’ experience in sales with Alpine at that point, and it just made sense to me,” Jonathan admits.

As an independent agent at RE/MAX Select Realty, Jonathan sold $3.9 million in 2021. However, within just four months of obtaining his broker’s license and becoming an Associate Broker, he has already sold $3 million. He said his goal for 2022 is to reach $10 million. With tremendous drive, determination, and a well-paved road ahead of him, there is no doubt he will reach every goal he sets.

When Jonathan isn’t cementing his family legacy in real estate, he enjoys hunting and fishing, especially saltwater fishing and fly fishing.

As Jonathan follows the footsteps of his grandfather and uncles into the coming generations, it will be exciting to see what he is able to build on top of it all.

“The only thing stopping you from succeeding is yourself,” Jonathan recites his favorite quote.
