When you remain focused on your goals, good things happen. That’s because your energy, talents and experience will all combine to move you closer to where you want to be.
That’s the spirit that Alan Evans puts to work each and everyday. As an Agent and Co-Manager/Broker of the Reece Nichols Real Estate office in Springfield, Alan puts his future focus to work to make a difference for others around him.
“I love going to work every day. Walking in the door and saying good morning to everyone I come in contact with. I love the people I work with, the lenders, and all other partners that it takes to complete a transaction,” Alan says.
“It’s really about the people and the relationships. If you build relationships, you will be successful.”
Making Moves in Life
Alan grew up in Memphis. Growing up, he had a great deal of exposure to the real estate business. His father was a developer and builder of both residential and commercial properties. “He built a lot, including apartments, homes and strip centers.”
Alan is the youngest of six children. All of his siblings worked for the family business but him. After his three brothers came into the business, they created a homebuilding business, Evans Homes. Alan’s mom, two sisters, great uncle, and even his grandmother all worked in the office together. Alan didn’t want anything to do with the real estate business. He was a bit of the rebel of the family.
When Alan was 19 years old, he remembers moving out with no job and no money. “It was Dad’s way or the highway.”
As he recalls, “I moved in with a friend and started working in the warehouse of a lighting store. That’s how my retail experience started. I was immediately promoted and ended up working in the lighting industry. I worked in retail and wholesale for many years.”
A Path to What’s Possible
In time, Alan moved to the Springfield area because his father was building condos in Branson and his Dad had bigger plans for him.
“My dad said, ‘It’s your turn to learn the building business, do you want to move to Springfield? I said yes because I was ready for a change.’ We built several homes here in Springfield. However, the market became saturated at that time, and I ended up back in the lighting business.”
Alan worked in the lighting industry, in Springfield, for a total of 22 years while also working at the Springfield airport as a supervisor at night with UPS.
In 2000, after starting out as a ground handler for a little over a year, Alan was promoted to supervisor with UPS. Lighting by day and UPS at night. In 2018, after having foot surgery, Alan decided to take the real estate class and get his Missouri real estate license. He couldn’t work either job but he could sit in a seat and take a class. It pleasantly surprised his father as his parents always wanted more for him. After taking the class, Alan had his mind made up what he was then going to do. “It’s amazing, what started out as necessity ended up being part of the plan and I didn’t even know it.”
“After passing the real estate test, I began interviewing agencies to see what was the best fit for me. A friend said I needed to interview with Reece Nichols Real Estate. After interviewing with nine other agencies, I liked what Reece Nichols had to offer. I was looking to find an agency where I could get the greatest education and support. I was looking for someplace I could grow and where I felt at home. After all of the interviews, I talked with my wife and we made the decision to sign with Reece Nichols. Since that day, I have not looked in my rearview mirror. I have excelled there and in the five years I have been with Reece Nichols, I have gone from just getting my start in real estate to being a co-manager there. All of these events enabled me to retire from UPS, after 23 years, in 2021.”
Making Things Happen
As he reflects back on the success he was able to find in the business, he remembers how vital good, old-fashioned hard work was for him.
“I beat the streets. If you work hard and make the sacrifices you need to succeed, you’re going to make money. It’s not going to be handed to you,” he points out.
“The relationships I’ve built over the last five years have been amazing. I started networking and I was able to build my business because of the relationships that were built. If you network just to get business, you will fail. You must network to build relationships. If you build those relationships, the business will follow.”
Treasured Life
Life is made much richer for Alan by his family, including his wife, Crystal, his daughter, Gabrielle “Gabby” Evans and her fiancé Tristin, his stepsons, Jacob and wife Kendra, and Aaron and wife Amanda, and three grandchildren.
In his free time, one of Alan and his wife’s favorite activities that they look forward to is getting out on the open road as they each have Can Am Spyders that they enjoy riding together. “Everyone needs a bit of wind therapy.”
They also like cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and especially look forward to time spent with their children and grandchildren, as well as exploring local restaurants and enjoying live music.
Alan also just graduated from the GSBOR 2023 Leadership Academy, is a member of the Community Development Committee, and was appointed to serve as a Director on the Board of Directors for the local MLS in 2024 and 2025.
With honesty and his solid, kind-hearted demeanor, and work ethic, Alan shares his genuine willingness to help with his work associates, agents across all other agencies, vendors and his clients.
“I love what I do and I have a passion for it. That includes people that I work with. I’m very blessed to work with the people in our organization and all of our offices,” Alan says. “It means a lot to be able to help make people’s dreams come true.”
Success happens through action that is guided by a plan and a strong focus on the future. It’s the kind of planning and follow-through that is perfectly put in motion each day by Alan Evans.
