Success is definitely not a cookie-cutter affair. The truth is that no two paths are the same when it comes to creating a path filled with the kind of achievements you’re going after. It takes imagination and having the courage to create and carve out your own path.
That’s a dynamic that is demonstrated very well by Dustin Langston.
As the host of the local Real Estate Radio program, and Founder of Langston Group with Murney Associates, Dustin fulfills a unique vision when it comes to serving the best interests of those around him.
A Highly Productive Hybrid Model
One of the prominent ways that vision plays out is in the way Dustin has structured Langston Group itself … a highly productive group that includes six Agents, an Operations Manager and an Administrative Assistant.
“We are more of a collective of agents who choose to work together to achieve something greater together than we could separately,” he says with a spark. “We bring in solid agents who felt they could work together. In turn, we all get a say in where the money goes and in the ways we are putting money back into the team.”
Setting the Beat
Dustin has long been accustomed to setting the tempo for those around him … literally. When he completed his high school career, he was a musician — playing drums for a number of years.
One day while driving through Springfield, Dustin and his wife passed an eye-catching old Queen Anne Victorian duplex that was for sale. After discussing it, they decided to purchase it.
“We lived in one side and rented out the other side. At that point, I became a landlord … right before the market crash of 2008. That taught me about the ebbs and flows of the real estate process. One of my band mates who played guitar was also a REALTOR®. Plus, I had also picked up Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey,” he remembers.
Through time, Dustin has been engaged in music. He even has had a business building custom drum sets. A friend of his told Dustin about his own experience in real estate.
“He said it was a hard business, and I said, ‘challenge accepted,’” Dustin smiles. “I ended up getting a Groupon for Real Estate Express.com, passed the exam and got licensed.”
Successful Start
He spared little time in hitting the ground running from there. In fact, he had two clients under contract during his first week.
“My plan at the time was to get my real estate license, do some deals, pay off debt and then go back to self-employment style.”
It wasn’t long before Dustin’s real estate friend approached him and asked if he wanted to partner with him.
“I told him that I would be happy to, but that I obviously didn’t have that much experience yet. He told me that I didn’t need to worry about that,” Dustin recalls. “He said he appreciated that I had an uncanny ability to get clients. So we formed a partnership for a couple of years before he moved away. That’s when I formed Langston Group.”
Team Success
Today, Langston Group ranks among the top 10 small teams in Missouri.
Beyond the numbers and accolades, Dustin feels a deep sense of pride in his role of helping others move forward in life.
“I love being a part of everyone’s journey,” he says. “This is a business of people and that’s why I gravitate toward that. I love people and their stories.”
A big part of the joy Dustin feels for what he does centers around his team which includes Kurt Killingsworth, David Jacquez, Katie Underwood, Ryan Henslee, Mary Jo Williams, and Jade Lovelady.
Active Life
Away from work, family is at the heart of life for Dustin. He, his wife and their three boys ranging in age from 3 to 10 share a rewarding life.
In their free time, they look forward to time camping. Dustin also has a love for motor sports. One of his favorite pursuits is racing dirt bikes.
When you talk with Dustin, it’s easy to see the drive that propels him forward in the work he does each day.
“My big drivers are my family and the team that we have,” he emphasizes.
“Each of the agents and their lives are important to me. I carry that as a motivational factor. And of course the clients are at the heart of what I do. When they call you and they want you to help them, I see it as an opportunity to invest in their lives and be part of their stories.”
Congratulations to Dustin Langston and his team at Langston Group. Day by day, Dustin leads by example … lifting others while fulfilling a unique vision.
