GERRY & PAT SCHUETZENHOFER

Building a Legacy Through Service

For Gerry Schuetzenhofer, success in real estate has always been about more than transactions. It has been about people, relationships, and helping others reach goals they once thought were out of reach.

Growing up in Fairview Heights, Gerry was raised alongside his parents, two sisters, and a brother. He describes himself as “the class clown kind of guy,” someone who enjoyed making people laugh, even if it occasionally led to trouble. That early personality trait would later become part of what helped him connect with clients, business partners, and the communities he served.

Although Gerry did not attend college, he never stopped learning. Throughout his career, he pursued extensive real estate training, learned from mentors, and built knowledge through service on community and nonprofit committees and boards. He also earned the CCIM designation, a global certification for commercial real estate experts.

Before real estate became his career, Gerry worked loading trucks for a grocery distribution company in St. Louis. It was hard work, but it helped shape the values that would guide him throughout his professional life.

“I started working when I was very young. I was taught the value of a dollar and to be honest by my parents,” Gerry says. “I had some great mentors who taught me not to be afraid of the big deal and how to aggressively build a business while still remaining well capitalized.”

The Start of Something Bigger
Gerry’s journey into real estate began in 1981 while he was still working the midnight shift loading trucks. During the day, he began selling real estate, starting a path that would eventually lead to decades of leadership and business growth.

The idea of pursuing real estate came from Gerry’s own experience as a young homeowner and investor. After moving out of his family’s home, he rented a one-bedroom apartment in an old four-family flat on Fifth Street in Belleville, Illinois. Six months later, he purchased the building. Another six months later, the property was paying for itself, allowing him to live rent-free.

“I saved what I would have paid in rent as a down payment on a three-family rental unit,” Gerry explains. “About that time, I thought, this real estate stuff is pretty cool and I should get my license.”

That decision launched a career that would eventually include company ownership in 1983, and brokerage leadership and helping countless agents and clients achieve their goals.

Gerry purchased Brown Realtors and served as President from November 1, 1989 to June 1, 2026. His company became his team, and through years of growth, the organization expanded from four offices and 60 agents to seven offices and more than 200 agents after becoming a Coldwell Banker affiliate in 1996.

A Career Built on Relationships
Over the years, Gerry has been recognized for his contributions in real estate and business. His honors include Realtor of the Year from the Belleville Board of Realtors in 1984, the St. Louis Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award in 1996, Illinois Business Journal Business Person of the Year in 2001, Realtor of the Year from the Greater Gateway Association of Realtors in 2009, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce in 2015.

For Gerry, the greatest reward has always been seeing others succeed.

“The most fulfilling part was to help agents, staff and customers achieve their goals and dreams,” he says.

That commitment has also shaped the way his company operates. Gerry believes in providing agents with strong training and support, creating an environment where professionals can continue developing their skills.

Beyond the office, Gerry and his wife, Pat, have built a life centered around family, community, and giving back. The couple will celebrate their 40th anniversary on October 4, 2026. Gerry credits Pat as a vital part of his success.

“Besides being the love of my life, she is the ultimate partner,” Gerry shares. “She’s loving, smart, super organized and much more, including willing to put up with me. I would not have been as successful without her.”

Together, Gerry and Pat enjoy spending time with their children, Ben and Anna, and their four grandchildren. They also enjoy family gatherings, travel, golfing, fishing, and time in Florida.

As Gerry looks toward the future, he hopes to see the agents and new owners continue to thrive as market leaders. His decision to merge with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group (CBREG) was rooted in protecting the future of the people who built the company alongside him. CBREG is a family-owned business with the same values and business philosophy as his company. They will now have over 65 offices, over 1,700 agents and total annual sales of over $5.4 billion.

The CBREG mission for agents reflects the mindset Gerry has carried throughout his career: “Live the life you want to live.”
