Growing up in East St. Louis, Illinois, D. Nicole Brazil learned early that success isn't built on shortcuts. It comes from showing up, honoring your word, and doing the work—even when no one is watching.

Raised primarily by her father, John Lee Jr., and her grandmother, alongside the unwavering support of her aunts, Nicole was surrounded by examples of discipline and resilience. Her family didn't have an abundance of material things, but they had something she believes mattered far more.

"We didn't grow up with excess—we grew up with expectation," Nicole says. "Showing up wasn't optional."

That philosophy became the foundation of everything that followed.

Nicole watched her father approach every challenge with consistency and determination, lessons that continue to guide her today. "Your word mattered. Your presence mattered," she reflects. "Long before I ever entered real estate, I learned that leadership is rooted in character, not flash, and that consistency builds credibility."

Faith became another pillar of her life. From Southern Missionary Baptist Church to her current church home at Living The Word Church in Collinsville, Nicole says her relationship with God has shaped how she leads through both success and adversity.

"I know who I am, and more importantly, I know ‘whose’ I am," she shares. "That clarity keeps me steady."

Before beginning her real estate career nearly five years ago, Nicole spent approximately two decades working in the courts and government sector. She also pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree in Business followed by a master's degree in Communication with an emphasis in Training and Development. Those experiences strengthened her passion for educating, mentoring, and communicating with purpose.

Real estate ultimately became the place where all those experiences intersected.

"Growing up watching my father's hands-on work ethic and understanding how stability changes families, I realized real estate was the intersection of service, strategy, and purpose," she says.

Nicole's career began under the leadership of Renée Lewis Realty, where she credits broker Angel Lewis with helping shape her professional foundation. Today, she serves clients with Keller Williams Marquee while also leading her own company, DLB Legacy Collective, LLC, a reflection of her commitment to helping families build wealth and create opportunities that extend beyond a single transaction.

Her business continues to grow, earning recognition that includes Gold Medal production honors, Social Media Influencer of the Year, the Shining Star Award, multiple Top 20% recognitions, and selection to the Agent Leadership Council at KW Marquee. Yet Nicole measures success differently.

"Real estate allows me to walk alongside people during major life transitions, and being trusted in those spaces is something I don't take lightly," she says.

Behind every successful transaction is a support system she deeply values. Administrative coordinator Ajah Taggart assists clients during the early stages of the process, while Kenzie Hemmingway guides transactions from contract to closing. Professional photographer Jared Taylor of Vitality Visuals oversees photography, videography, and much of the company's social media, while Nicole's father continues to serve as a trusted business consultant.

Her husband, Lawrence, also plays a meaningful role through lead generation, photography, and marketing support. Today, Nicole also treasures the relationship she has built with her mother, whose love and encouragement have become a meaningful part of her personal journey. She believes restored relationships are among God's greatest gifts.

Outside of work, family remains Nicole's greatest source of pride. She and Lawrence have built a blended family with four sons: Lawrence Brazill III, 25; Jadin, 22; Christian Stovall-Brazil, 18; and Lundin, 10. Basketball once dominated family life, with weekends spent traveling to tournaments and countless evenings at practices.

Looking back, Nicole believes those years offered lessons that reached far beyond sports.

"It taught our sons how to work together, lead under pressure, honor commitments, and understand that other people were counting on them," she says.

Today, the family enjoys traveling, concerts, movies, plays, karaoke, board games, card games, and simply spending time together. Nicole also enjoys reading devotionals and inspirational books while occasionally unwinding with reality television.

Giving back has become another defining part of her life. She serves in her church's greeting ministry, mentors young women through the EmpowerMe Program, co-founded the Sisters Empowerment Exchange, hosts the annual Sisters Empowerment Brunch, participates in Keller Williams RED Day, supports KW Cares, and, together with Lawrence, has mentored young people while adopting a child each Christmas.

Looking ahead, Nicole hopes to strengthen her business systems, continue mentoring others, expand her speaking opportunities, and remain grounded in her faith. Through it all, she continues to live by three simple words that have become her personal philosophy.

"It's both literal and metaphorical," Nicole explains. "Don't stay down. Prepare yourself before the opportunity arrives. Show up, even when it's difficult, because someone else's breakthrough may depend on your willingness to keep going."

For Nicole, real estate has never been solely about buying and selling homes. As founder of DLB Legacy Collective and a REALTOR® with KW Marquee, her mission is larger than that.

"It's about people," she says. "It's about possibility. It's about legacy."
