KIM CAMERON
Heart Behind Real Estate
Nearly three decades ago, Kim Cameron’s path into real estate began with a simple phone call from her brother asking if she wanted to help rehab a house. What started as a single project quickly became something much bigger.
“I was quickly hooked,” Kim says.
At the time, she found herself wearing several hats simultaneously—rehabbing homes with her brother, running a mortgage company with her sister-in-law, managing a portfolio of family-owned rental properties, and eventually earning her real estate license in 2003 to simplify the buying, selling, and leasing process for those properties. By the following year, however, she realized her future lay in focusing on one profession.
“I decided to simplify my life,” Kim explains. “I sold my last 14 rental units and set out on my own to ‘only’ wear one hat as a Realtor.”
The decision proved to be the right one. Within a year, Kim became a top-producing agent at her brokerage, and by 2005 she had built a real estate team out of necessity. Some of those relationships have endured for decades. Her first hire remained with her for 20 years before retiring, and today that agent’s daughter is a licensed top producer who has spent the past eight years on Kim’s team.
While the business has grown, Kim says the foundation has remained remarkably consistent.
“Things have changed over the years, but keeping the needs of each client at the center of what we do remains the same,” she says. “Every day, we are building relationships, solving problems and having some fun along the way. Real estate is never boring as no two clients are the same. There's nothing else like it and I cannot imagine another profession this rewarding.”
Long before real estate, Kim learned the value of hard work by watching her parents build a family furniture business from the ground up. Their company eventually expanded to five locations, but success came with long hours and sacrifice.
“I learned to work hard and never take anything for granted,” Kim reflects. “From a young age I knew hard work meant sacrifice, but not sacrificing family.”
Her family's journey also included significant hardship. After the business closed in the late 1980s, they lost their home while trying to keep it afloat. At just 19 years old, Kim lost her father unexpectedly. Six months later, she and her brother survived a devastating car accident that left her with 28 fractures in her neck, hands, hips, and pelvis.
Those experiences continue to shape the way she approaches both life and business.
“My father's influence and drive continues to run through my veins,” she says. “Years of failing forward have taught me to never give up, find opportunity in setbacks and identify the path forward at every turn. And by all means, find humor in everything.”
Kim’s background extends well beyond sales. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before working in advertising sales at KSHE 95, one of the country's longest-running classic rock stations. Combined with her experience in construction, lending, and property management, she believes those experiences give her clients a meaningful advantage.
“I feel it offers an edge over the competition to be better versed and experienced than the average,” she says.
Today, Kim leads the seven-member Kim Cameron Group at RE/MAX Results with a collaborative philosophy that sets the tone for every client relationship.
“At any point in the home buying, selling or investing process, a client may work with one or all of us,” she explains. “We don't pawn a client off on an admin once we have an accepted offer. We are at the center of the conversation to make sure they never feel second on our list.”
That team-first mentality extends beyond transactions. Over the past 16 years, Kim has served in leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels of the real estate industry while also becoming a national speaker, trainer, and educator, teaching Certified Residential Specialist courses and her own curriculum in 31 states and counting.
Looking ahead, Kim remains focused on refining her business while continuing to grow intentionally.
“My goal for 2026 is to continue to refine systems for my team and grow in a purposeful, intentional way,” she says.
Outside of work, Kim and her husband, Sid, enjoy traveling, kayaking, and spending time together at home, where Sid's homemade sourdough has become something of a tradition. They recently completed a five-year home renovation and now share their home with two Golden Retrievers, Mali and Missy.
Whether mentoring agents, serving clients, or giving back through organizations like Children's Miracle Network, Kim believes success ultimately comes down to one simple principle.
“Kindness is mandatory,” she says. “Life is hard. A little kindness goes a long way.”
That philosophy is reflected in her team's mission statement: “Building relationships, Solving Problems and having fun each day.” For Kim, it's more than a tagline—it is the standard by which she has built a career spanning nearly three decades.
