MATT KAMMEIER
Built by Adversity
Success is often measured by awards, sales volume, and recognition. But for Matt Kammeier, those accomplishments are simply the result of something much deeper: an unwavering commitment to keep moving forward, no matter what life puts in front of him.
Growing up in Wentzville and graduating from Holt High School, Matt always felt like he was searching for something bigger. He built friendships with people from every walk of life, but never felt like he fit neatly into one group.
“I never really fit in,” Matt says. “I was always the out-of-the-box kid. I just knew there had to be more to life.”
That mindset became the driving force behind his early career. While many people spend years searching for the right path, Matt refused to settle for work that didn’t inspire him. He managed restaurants, sold cars, worked in life insurance, pursued investment licensing, spent time in video production, and even worked in landscaping. Looking back, each experience taught him something different about leadership, communication, sales, and serving people.
“I told my parents I was going to find something I couldn’t wait to wake up and do every morning,” he says. “I wasn’t chasing a paycheck—I was chasing purpose.”
That purpose finally revealed itself in 2014.
While helping his aunt manage vacation rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks, Matt discovered he loved creating memorable experiences for people. It wasn’t just maintaining properties or marketing rentals—it was solving problems, building relationships, and creating an experience guests would never forget.
When the property was eventually sold, he made a decision that would change his life. Using a week of paid vacation from his full-time job, Matt completed real estate school, passed his licensing exam, and committed himself fully to the profession.
What he couldn’t have known was that earning his license would be one of the easiest obstacles he would face.
As his business began to grow, life delivered challenges few people could have imagined.
In 2020, Matt and his wife, Kali, lost their home to a devastating house fire. What followed wasn’t a quick recovery but more than a year of insurance disputes, temporary apartments, uncertainty, and rebuilding their lives from the ground up. At the very same time, he was building his real estate business during one of the most unpredictable housing markets in history.
Just as life began finding a new rhythm, another challenge arrived.
In December 2021, Matt contracted COVID-19. His oxygen levels plummeted, blood clots were discovered in his lungs, and he spent 41 days hospitalized fighting for his life. Recovery didn’t end when he left the hospital. Months of pulmonary rehabilitation followed, and even after returning to work, he continued serving clients while carrying an oxygen tank.
Many people would have viewed those seasons as reasons to pause.
Matt viewed them as reasons to keep going.
Those experiences reshaped the way he approaches both business and life.
“Who you marry matters,” he says. “The people around you matter. Life is going to test you, and the people in your corner make all the difference.”
Today, Matt leads Kammeier Property Group, powered by Keller Williams Realty West, alongside his sister, who serves as a buyer’s agent, and an office manager who helps keep the business running smoothly. When asked about his role, his answer is simple.
“CEO and janitor,” he laughs. “I’m down in the trenches with my team every day.”
That hands-on leadership has helped his team surpass $100 million in career sales while earning multiple Top Producer recognitions and the prestigious Theobald Cultural Award, recognizing leadership, mentorship, teamwork, and servant leadership.
Yet ask Matt what he’s most proud of, and the conversation quickly shifts away from production.
His greatest success is building a business rooted in reputation.
“Our business is almost entirely referral-based,” he says. “The only way that happens is by creating an experience our clients didn’t even know was possible.”
Education remains at the center of that mission. Whether working with first-time buyers or seasoned sellers, Matt believes informed clients make confident decisions, and confidence creates better outcomes.
Away from work, he and Kali are raising their two boys, Asher and August. Whether they’re exploring the woods behind their home, spending weekends at their lake cabin, or simply enjoying time together, family has become the definition of success.
Looking back, Matt doesn’t believe adversity slowed his journey. He believes it built it.
His personal mantra is simple: “1…2…3…GO.”
“It’s honestly you against you,” he says. “That countdown is my reminder to stop overthinking, take the first step, and move forward. Life is going to knock you down. The decision to get back up—that’s always yours.”
