Jason Dill: Dilligence Heating, Air Conditioning, and Mechanical Solutions

A Business Built on Trust, Loyalty, & Relationships

“Heating and air is a business where if you’re honest and excel at what you do there’s a ton of work that’ll come your way.”

Starting a business is always a complex challenge, especially during times of economic uncertainty. But for Jason Dill, the collapse of the mortgage industry in 2008 presented him with a unique opportunity to create a reputable business that puts people first.

After going to trade school and working in the commercial and residential sectors of the HVAC industry, Jason grew disillusioned by the conventional approach of some companies in the industry. He saw a need for a business that steered clear of mass-building practices and instead focused on building long-term relationships with people and providing an exceptional customer experience.

With that, Jason started Dilligence Heating, Air Conditioning, and Mechanical Solutions in August 2008 with his wife, and hasn’t looked back since. Now, fifteen years later, the company has grown to 18 employees but retains a uniquely personal feel in the industry.

“We’re very family oriented. We would trust any of our personnel with any client, at any time.”

Jason’s wife, Diana, is the owner of the company, and a veteran of the Air Force, making Dilligence a woman-minority-veteran-owned business. Several of Diana’s siblings also work at the company to create a unique, family atmosphere.

Values at the Heart of the Business

“We’re dedicated to providing the utmost quality for our clients and customers and trying to be there for them when they need us, as soon as we possibly can.”

For Jason and the rest of the team, nothing is more important than the personal relationships they foster with homeowners and real estate agents. Those relationships are the foundation for providing an exceptional experience from the first impression to the completion of the job.

“We always walk people through the process, show them what’s going on, and are transparent with everything that we do. We give our professional recommendations and ultimately, let our clients make their own decisions.”

Most importantly, Dilligence doesn’t have a sales-based service program to drive their revenue. Many HVAC companies try to find more issues and sell additional services to their clients because they make a 10-20% commission. At Dilligence, employees and personnel get paid very well to simply provide value to customers, so they have no incentive to sell people services they don’t really need.

“We don’t play a numbers game with high-profit margins, and our customers can sense that.”

For Jason, the key to providing an exceptional customer experience is to be quick and transparent with customers. He believes in walking clients through the process, showing them exactly what's going on, and presenting all the available options. Dilligence provides their expert opinion, but ultimately, each client is free to make the final decision on every project. Since real estate agents typically need quick answers to close deals, Jason makes sure that his team is always ready to answer calls and be there when people need them.

Something else that’s important to the company is staying on the cutting edge of what they do. They’re always on the hunt for ways to improve their services and contribute toward a greener footprint on the planet. The whole team takes pride in trying to guide people toward the betterment of the environment while also helping them lower their operating costs and expenses.

Organic, Sustainable Growth

One of the key reasons for Dilligence’s success has been their ability to amass a strong network through simple hard work, dedication, and word of mouth. By focusing on providing a fantastic experience for each client, Jason and his team have built a trustworthy and reputable brand whose name has spread across North Carolina.

“If you please one client, they go and tell their neighbors, and the growth is exponential from there. We’ve grown steadily since the beginning without any advertising.”

While Jason recognizes that growth is important, it certainly doesn’t steer the direction of their business decisions. Right now, Jason interacts with every facet of the company, so hiring more people would only dilute the care and attention that they give to each client.

“It’s inevitable that we’ll grow further, but I’ll never take a leap to do something that separates us from the values of the company.”

Internally, the top priority is to cultivate each employee to become a leader. Jason is very careful and deliberate in the hiring process to ensure that each person that joins the company is aligned with their values and overall mission. This creates a situation where he’d trust anyone on the team with anybody at any time.

Dilligence is a company centered on trust and loyalty, with a reputation that’s a testament to their commitment to their values and an exceptional client experience.
